Let’s welcome the new season with a trio of delicious spring dishes!

Join Table for Two, a network of Japan-America Societies, and the US JET Alumni Association for a virutal Japanese cooking class - Ouchigohan!!

    Saturday, April 25

    5:00 PM ET | 4:00 PM CT

JASA or other JAS/JS Members: $10

    Non-Members: $15

This month’s menu continues our #EdamameChamp programming with Salmon Takikomi Gohan, a comforting one-pot rice dish studded with bright green edamame. Rice, salmon, vegetables, and savory seasonings cook together in a rice cooker or on the stovetop, creating a flavorful and nourishing Japanese-style pilaf!

We’ll also prepare Broccolini with Miso Dressing, inspired by nanohana, Japan’s delicate spring vegetable. The tender broccolini pairs beautifully with a rich, savory miso sauce that highlights the fresh flavors of the season.

To finish, we’ll make Mitarashi Dango, one of Japan’s most beloved traditional sweets. These chewy dumplings are made with silken tofu for extra tenderness and drizzled with a glossy sweet soy glaze—the perfect balance of sweet and savory.

Join us as we cook, taste, and celebrate the flavors of spring—right from the comfort of your own kitchen.

Each year, we celebrate the arrival of spring with food, crafts, performances, and other activities at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens' Japanese Garden. Join us at the end of March for Hanami (flower viewing) as we welcome the season! Cherry blossoms, or sakura (桜, さくら), bloom for only a few weeks each year, and in Japanese culture, they symbolize the fleeting beauty of life. Thousands of people gather in parks across Japan to experience the blossoms. Come enjoy our Birmingham cherry trees while they’re in full bloom!

Each year, we host a special reception and forum, bringing together our members and guests from across the state to network, dine, and enjoy a unique program that celebrates the JASA community.

Our 2025 Annual Celebration Dinner and Business Forum will take place at Birmingham’s Ross Bridge in November. Stay tuned for more details on tickets and sponsorship opportunities!

Kayoubikai (火曜日会)is our monthly outing to a local Japanese restaurant. Held on one Tuesday of every month, Kayoubikai is an opportunity to meet new friends with similar interests, practice Japanese, and stay connected with other JASA members. While membership is not mandatory to attend the event, we encourage registering for individual membership to support JASA and stay involved with our events!
